  在为非英语专业本、硕、博学生讲授英语写作之时,尤其在为其讲授学术英语写作之时,我们深切感受到这一层次的学习者在英语习作,尤其是学术英语习作方面亟需一本符合他们实际需要的英语写作教材作为辅助。虽然国内可供选择的类似教材比比皆是,但它们大多依英美学生特点、思路和能力编写而成,并不一定适合以汉语为母语的非英语专业学生,在提高他们英语写作水平上未必产生显著功效,在学术英语写作方面,有些看似次要却不可忽视的写作事项如标点等往往不被重视,无法针对性地为他们提供服务。目前,我国的改革开放在不断深化,全方位与国际交流的程度越来越高,故而编写一本既符合英语语言特点,难易度适中,又能满足以汉语为母语的非英语专业学生通用与学术写作需要,贴合他们能力的英语写作教程正当其时。
  众所周知,大凡教材,其必定之宗旨乃以推进学以致用为目标,为中国学生而编写的非英语专业通用与学术写作教程概莫能外。本教程是在我们长期为非英语专业学生传授英语写作知识、积累了大量通用与学术英语写作技能的基础之上编写而成,具备了很强的实用性。本教程在介绍通用英语写作的基本概念,体现其实用性、规范性、科学性、实操性及其系统性等的同时,还专门就学术英语写作的种类、模式、原理、规范、方法等进行了介绍,将它们分成了两大板块,并辅之以相当的示例加以说明。
  我们在实际教学过程中注意到,目前以汉语为母语的非英语专业(如人文、理学、工学、农学、医学等类别)的本科、硕士、博士阶段学生实际的英语水平及其能力,其学衔与实际英语写作水平之间鲜能对应,在学期间乃至毕业之后,在发表满足同行学者、评审专家期待的国际性论文、用书面英文来实现与同行之间的学术交流方面,他们都面临着各种窘境。我们遵照循序渐进、逐步提高的编写原则,秉持的基本理念是:以学生领会英语写作基本概念与要领为先导,使其英语写作知识得以迅速强化、使其英语复用能力得以有效提高、使其尽快做到学用结合。
  本教程的学习有望使学习者夯实通用英语写作基础,还可促使他们尽快熟悉、掌握学术英语写作的基本原理与方法,从而在理念上架起通用英语写作与学术英语写作的桥梁。本教程将有助于非英语专业学习者深化对通用英语与学术英语写作本质的理解,实现通用英语与学术英语写作知识和技能的融会贯通,逐步增强自身的学术规范意识和创新意识,并最终形成良好的英语写作习惯。
  全教程共有十四章。前六章内容的重点在于厘清通用英语写作的基本概念、思路与相关原理,辅之以实际案例示范,结合适量的实操演练。第六章作为一个过渡章,就通用英语写作与学术英语写作之间的异同、影响因素、机制、方法等方面进行探讨,使其成为连接前后内容的衔接点,既给学习者提供通用英语写作的反思空间,也让以汉语为母语的学习者了解自己面临的处境和存在于其中的某些机制,使其对基础性学术英语写作内容有所展望。后八章内容与学术写作关系较为密切、实属学性性论文写作中不可或缺的事项,特色较为显著,主要包括引言、摘要、致谢、学术写作的种类(如学术写作中的研究性论文、综述、毕业论文、会议论文)、学术写作中的引用、准备工作与初稿修订、提交程序、相关图表、参考文献、附录、标点符号等的撰写,这些均关系到学术英语写作要求、原则与方法的基础内容。许多单元后配有与本章内容相关的若干练习,以利于学习者思考,为其提供实操便利。
  受众面广、系统性强为本教程的一大特色,能够满足多层次学生提高通用英语写作与学术英语写作的切实需要。通过本教程的学习,学习者不仅能提升通用英语写作的基本技能,而且在提高学术英语写作的实操水平和能力上,也会获得助益。
  本教程是诸位教师辛勤汗水的结晶。教程编写人员均为多年来从事非英语专业研究生教学的一线教师。他们积累了丰富的教学经验,对自己的教学对象甚为熟悉,对他们的需求也十分了解,这些都为本教程的编写奠定了坚实的基础。教程各章编写内容构成如下:李英垣负责第一、二、三、五、六章和第七章中Section Ⅲ的编写,并负责总体策划、宏观和微观统筹、编撰体例制定等全盘性工作;刘曦芬负责第四章的编写;程杰负责第七章中Section Ⅱ、第十一章中11.1、11.3和第十三章的编写;薛荷仙负责第十章的编写;杨春丽负责第七章中Section Ⅰ、第九章、第十一章中11.2和第十二章的编写;张慧明负责第八章的编写;谢宝霞负责第十一章中11.4和第十四章的编写。
