《新编大学实用英语》是根据教育部高等教育司颁布的《高职高专英语课程教学基本要求》编写而成。本套教材以培养学生的实用涉外交际能力为主旨，强调以应用能力为目的，体现了以实用为主，以够用为度的教学原则。
本套教材共两册，每册十个单元。每单元由Section A、Section B、Section C、Section D四部分组成。适合高职非英语专业学生学习使用。
Section AIntegrated Skills Development
Passage A中精选语言地道、规范、贴近学生学习和生活、反映时代节奏的文章作为精讲文章，力求题材、体裁多样，内容有趣，并具有一定的启发性。文章后附有单词表和紧扣课文内容的课后练习。
Passage B中选取与本单元主题相关的文章作为泛读文章。其内容以A级英语应用能力考试为参考。
Section BGrammar
详细讲解英语语法，帮助学生学习掌握基本的英语语法规则，使其在听、说、读、写、译中能正确运用所学语法知识。每项语法配备了较多的练习，旨在强化学生语法基本功。
Section CVocabulary and Translation/Reading Comprehension
一至五单元为A级词汇(Vocabulary)和翻译(Translation)专项练习,精选了A级常用词汇和中等难度的一般题材的文字材料和对外交往中的一般业务文字材料。
六至十单元为阅读理解（Reading Comprehension）专项练习。精选了A级阅读理解两种题型。
Section DApplied Writing
逐一介绍各类应用文的写作要求、方式及技巧，以便学生掌握一般应用文章的写作技巧，练好用英语表达思想的基本功，能达到文字流畅，语意连贯，标点正确，无重大语法错误的要求。
书中还配有A级英语应用能力考试的两套模拟综合练习，难易度以A级英语应用能力考试为标准，方便学生在学期中和学期末训练摸底。
